What is branding?

To understand branding, it is important to know what brands are. A brand is the idea or image of a specific product or service that consumers connect with, by identifying the name, logo, slogan, or design of the company who owns the idea or image. Branding is when that idea or image is marketed so that it is recognizable by more and more people, and identified with a certain service or product when there are many other companies offering the same service or product.

Branding is an important part of Internet commerce, as branding allows companies to build their reputations as well as expand beyond the original product and service, and add to the revenue generated by the original brand.

Branding is also a way to build an important company asset, which is a good reputation. Whether a company has no reputation, or a less than stellar reputation, branding can help change that. Branding can build an expectation about the company services or products, and can encourage the company to maintain that expectation, or exceed them, bringing better products and services to the market place.

What is a movement?

Movements are a type of group action. They are large informal groupings of individuals or organizations which focus on specific political, social or environmental issues.

Movements aim to change, repaire or even ban specific laws, rules, values and traditions.

What is design?

Realization of a concept or idea into a configuration, drawing, model, mould, pattern, plan or specification (on which the actual or commercial production of an item is based) and which helps achieve the items designated objective(s).

Design Process:

Benefits:
When starting a new design project, there are steps of the graphic design process to follow that will help you to achieve the best results. Rather than jump right into a graphics software program to try to create a final version, you can save yourself time and energy by first researching the topic, finalizing your content, starting with simple sketches and getting several rounds of approval on designs.

Gather information:
Before you can start a project you of course need to know what your client needs. Gathering information is the first step of the graphic design process. When approached for a new job, set up a meeting to discuss the scope of the work. Be sure to gather as much information as possible:

  1. who is the audience?
  2. what is the message?
  3. how many pages is the piece?
  4. is there a specific budget?
  5. is there a deadline?
  6.  can the client provides example of design they like?
  7. is there an existing corporate brand that needs to be matched?
Create an outline:
Using the information collected in your meeting you’ll be able to develop an outline of the content and goal of the project, which you can present to your client for approval before proceeding.
Harness your creativity:

  1. brainstorming
  2. research
  3. go to inspiring places
  4. draw
Sketches and wireframes:
Before moving into a software program such as Illustrator or InDesign, it is helpful to create some simple sketches of the layout of a piece. This way, you can show your client some ideas without spending too much time on design.
